Pantheon Fountain Study
Sculpting, Texturing and Real-Time Presentation

01
GOAL
Recreate the Fountain of Piazza della Rotonda in Rome as a complete 3D asset study.
The project was an opportunity to explore the full production workflow of an ornamental architectural asset: from reference analysis and high-poly sculpting to texturing, assembly and real-time presentation.
Rather than reproducing every historical detail with absolute accuracy, I focused on understanding the monument’s main shapes, sculptural hierarchy and material identity.

PROBLEMS
The most difficult part of the project was managing the amount of sculptural information.
The final presentation also revealed that highly detailed geometry alone was not enough. Lighting, roughness and surface variation were essential to make the forms readable in real time.

More sculpted detail did not automatically create a stronger final image. ; (
04
LESSONS LEARNED
Start from the overall silhouette before sculpting small details.
Organise the asset early to simplify baking, texturing and export.
Use surface variation to support the sculpted forms, not hide them.
Break complex monuments into manageable visual groups.

HISTORICAL ENVIRONMENT STUDY
Use the fountain as the central landmark of a small real-time environment inspired by Piazza della Rotonda.
Explore how architecture, materials, lighting, water and environmental storytelling can support the asset at a larger scene scale.
